DEVELOPMENT: Survey finds 61% of the company's commits are named 'fix'

The statistic was obtained by a ten-line script. The script was never reviewed and has no tests either, but the number went over well in the meeting.

An informal survey conducted by a developer during lunch break found that 61% of commit messages over the last twelve months consist of the word "fix," sometimes followed by a period.

Second place, at 14%, is "adjustments." Third is "wip," a category that covers exclusively Friday commits at 6:40 p.m.

"I just wanted to know who had touched that file," explained the script's author. "I found out it was me, fifteen times, and that not once did I explain what it was."

Asked for comment, the platform team said it has followed a message standard since 2023, whose document sits in a repository nobody has cloned for two years.

The developer said he will start writing better messages as of next Monday. The commit for the fix is called "fix."
