stage 01 · money: Before the wallet

A crypto wallet isn't the starting point, it's the finish line. Before it comes a question almost nobody asks: where does your money actually live today?

  • bank
  • getting-started

Anyone who rushes into crypto learns to read charts before learning where the money lives. This track does the opposite.

What's already happening

You have a bank account. That balance in the app isn't money tucked in a drawer: it's a note in the bank's system saying you have that much. There's no paper of yours with that number on it. There's their record.

It works almost every time. That's why almost nobody questions it.

Why this comes before crypto

In crypto, the record leaves one company's system and starts being checked by a lot of people, with no single owner. You stop depending on someone else's statement and start being able to check for yourself. The price of that is simple, with no fine print: whoever checks is responsible. A lost key has no support line, no refund and no manager.

It isn't better or worse. It's a different contract — and you read a contract before signing it.

Mission

Get a piece of paper. Write three lines about what your bank knows about you without you ever choosing to tell it: name, CPF, address, who you send money to. Keep the list; stage 7 comes back to it.

The part about banks is plain mechanics. The reading on responsibility is one writer's impression.
